Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is damaged, decayed, or causing crowding. It’s needed when a tooth is beyond repair or for orthodontic purposes. Common symptoms include severe pain, infection, or overcrowding in the mouth. The tooth is carefully removed to relieve pain and prevent further dental issues.

Tooth extraction is needed for reasons like

  1. Severe decay,
  2. Trauma,
  3. Infection,
  4. Overcrowding, or
  5. Impacted wisdom teeth.

A simple extraction typically takes 20-40 minutes,

while a surgical extraction might take longer depending on complexity.

Dry socket is a painful condition where the blood clot at the extraction site dislodges.

Avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, or vigorous rinsing to prevent it.

You should stick to soft foods for the first 24 hours. Gradually reintroduce solid foods based on your dentist’s advice.

Depending on the condition, root canal treatment, fillings, or crowns may be considered as alternatives to extraction.
